Simcom Recurrent TBM 850 Training

It’s that time of the year. Insurance requires me to fly up to Orlando and take Simcom’s recurrent training for the TBM 850 every year. This was much better than the initial course where they open the firehose and blast you with info.

Robert and I flew up to Orlando International Airport Monday for the 3 day program. Not the most interesting 3 days but we learned a couple things. Little bit of classroom, a little bit in the simulator and were out of there.

Probably the coolest part of the trip was the huge Russion airplane on the ramp when we were taxing to the FBO. It was an Antonov AN-124 which is the smaller version of the Antonov AN-225.

Enhancing your watermelon w/ Vacum sealer.

Have you ever had a piece of watermelon that just isn’t that sweet and juicy as it should be? Here is the solution.

Vacmaster VP 210. This is a chamber machine and it is different from your everyday machine you might find in your neighbors kitchen. With a chamber machine you actually put the bag in the chamber and it evacuates all the air in the chamber as well as the bag. The same pressure is maintained on the outside and inside of the bag. Unlike a regular vacuum sealer which sucks the air out of the bag.

The problem with sucking the air out of the bag is that it also sucks out the juices or any liquids and that can be a big problem or limit what you can vacuum seal. With the chamber machine you can actually seal soup, stews, sauces and marinate meats with out sucking the liquid out.

Danielle Shooting the H&K MR556A1

This was the first trip to the range after getting the H&K MR556A1. The optics were new as well. The Leopold HAMR scope with a DeltaPoint Red Dot sight mounted on top of it.

I brought Danielle and a few hundred rounds of ammo. After sighting in the Leopold optics I let Danielle have at it. She shot as well as I did!

The rifle is very fun and easy to shoot. The only thing missing was a full-auto switch.

The range was only 100 yards. I would like to shoot at some longer ranges but there is nothing close by. The 4x scope at 100 yards was great and the fast acquisition of closer targets with the DeltaPoint is amazing.

Now just waiting for the zombie invasion.

Hunting for meteorites?

Ok I have been watching way to much TV. I started watching meteorite men on the Science Channel. How cool would it be to go Off-Roading and hunting for meteorites in the desert? Some of those rocks fetch some nice coin. $800 an ounce! All I need is a badass 4×4 and a metal detector and lets head out west.

The Jeep Rubicon is ready to go. It has been waiting in my garage for duty to call. The only action she has seen is Gonzalo and Anthony’s attempt to throw me from the back they day we completed the suspension. All I need to do now is get this baby from South Florida all the way to one of those strewn fields in Arizona. I also Need a metal detector.

Ok the UPS guy just dropped that off today. Fisher F75. That problem is solved. Only problem now is I have no clue how to use it. I’ll have to go to the beach and have one of those older gents give me some pointers.

Nerd Alert! I would love to hit the beach and test it out but I would never hear the end of it from my friends. I can hear them laughing now. I can’t be too big of a nerd, before my girlfriend left for dinner she told me I had better learn how to use it before she gets back because she has some buried treasure for me to find. Hmmm, I better go read the manual.

Stay tuned to see if I make it to the strewn fields summer or if the metal detector ends up in storage!

Entry 1

Last night I decided to start a blog. I would probably call it more of a journal. I have such a hard time remembering the things I have done over the years that I think it’s about time I start keeping a record. I hope you find this site interesting. My life can’t be that boring! Can it?
